2015 Color(s) of the Year

Designers and paint companies have started rolling out their “Color of the Year” for 2015. What’s interesting? Their selections are all over the color wheel.

Let’s start with Benjamin Moore, our go-to resource for spectacular color selection and quality paint.

Guilford Green

Guilford Green nookBenjamin has claimed a calming green, Guilford Green, as its 2015 Color of the Year.  As Creative Director Ellen O’Neill says, “A neutral that’s natural. A silvery green that works with, well, everything. No worries. No second thoughts. Just a brush, dipped in a can, whooshed on a wall, and a whole lot of happily ever after.”

Over at Kelly Moore, they’ve gone a completely different direction. They claim a deep, bold blue, Coastal Surf, as the Color of the Year—”a saturated and timeless blue, reflective of Yves Klein Blue”.

But at Sherwin Williams, we see yet another completely different take—a deep coral called Coral Reef. “Coral Reef embodies a cheerful approach to design that we’re seeing for the coming year. Its unexpected versatility brings life to a range of design aesthetics, whether traditional, vintage, cottage or contemporary,” said Jackie Jordan, Sherwin-Williams director of color marketing.

And designer Robert Allen has claimed a gorgeous teal, Calypso Blue, as the winner for 2015. According to the Robert Allen Pinboard: “Synonymous with inky batiks found on vacation or on the runway, Calypso Blue is classic and timeless”.

Pantone, the company many consider to be the definitive authority on color, has not yet released its selection for Color of the Year. We wonder—will it be a bold blue, or a soft green? A bright coral? Or something completely different? We’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, what’s your favorite of these four?
